TTA SV Go-Global Program is Still Open to Application

In 2020, TTA SV will select and subsidize 28 tech startups to go to the United States for business development and engaging in entrepreneurship thinking and culture in Silicon Valley.  The program will not only subside each chosen startup up to TWD 900K and help them to enter famous startup accelerators in Silicon Valley. From this year, TTA SV specifically cooperates with three prominent Bay Area accelerators such as Plug and Play, Berkeley SkyDeck, and Alchemist Accelerator. We hope Taiwan startups could connect to the global market more smoothly through these three accelerators' mentoring and connection. 

Besides, TTA SV also set up the TTA SV office in Silicon Valley to provide local support for startups. The TTA SV office deeply engaged with venture capital, angel investors, technology communities, university laboratories, companies, accelerators, and regulatory consultants in Silicon Valley. For example, Life Science Angels, the most-trust angel investment community in USA rated by CB Insights, and the Band of Angels, which has been operating for the longest in the region, are partners of TTA SV. Also, connecting with large-scale exhibitions such as TechCrunch, TTA SV will set up the national pavilion to enhance the international visibility of startups. 

This year's application was ended on March 31st originally. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the uncertainty of global startup development has increased. Therefore, TTA SV postponed the application deadline to May 31st to let more startups have the opportunity to receive the grant. It will extend the deadline according to the actual situation until reaching the planned quota for this plan is reached

TTA SV Winners

In 2019, Ubiik was selected by Plug And Play accelerator in Silicon Valley. After engaging in Silicon Valley's startup ecosystem, Ubiik successfully launched its products into the global market. Through the connections of PnP's fortune 500 members, Ubiik has reached more than 50 global enterprises and venture capitals. Ubiik even succeeded in getting the order from the American leading computer hard disk drive manufacturer. After receiving international recognition and endorsement from Silicon Valley, Ubiik won another TWD 460 million bid from the Taiwan Power. Ubiik will install smart meters with efficient power and energy-saving technologies for 260,000 households in Taiwan.

PenguinSmart was selected in 2019 and joined Alchemist Accelerator's program. The team developed a remote teaching matchmaking platform for special children. After entering Alchemist, Penguin Smart not only received direct investment from it but also was opportunities from international finance and market development.  From the implicit academic discussion at the beginning to full confidence in negotiations with foreign investors, her business plan is more mature and has received actual investment. Nowadays, she extended her long-distance courses to Asia and also established offices both in Taiwan and Silicon Valley.

NexRetail was selected in 2019 by SkyDeck UC Berkeley. It is a software development company that uses AI and IOT technology to analyze consumer behavior. After being chosen to enter the accelerator, the startup directly connects to the world's top research resources in Berkeley to understand the trend of AI technology. At the same time, in the one-and-a-half month intensive course, he interacted with more than 50 SkyAdvisors to understand the actual demands and bottlenecks of his existing products in various potential markets. During his trip to the United States, he was supported by TTA SV and participated in the 2019 TechCrunch in San Francisco. During the exhibition, he won an order from a European wine merchant directly.

We Connect Taiwan and Silicon Valley Even during the Difficult Time of COVID-19

During the COVID-19 epidemic prevention period, global transportation and large-scale international exhibitions are suspended. However, the TTA SV office is still committed to bilateral exchanges between Taiwan and Silicon Valley. It uses new media to hold various online Webinars to connect its Silicon Valley network. The opinions of Silicon Valley experts and startup trends are bridged to Taiwan to maintain bilateral information transparency between Taiwan and Silicon Valley.

On April 28th, TTA SV invited David Hornik, the GP of August Capital, to share the venture capital’s investment strategy in the epidemic. On May 26th, we asked David Beckett, a TED Talk speaker training teacher, to share how to communicate in the era of digitalization, to give an eye-catching presentation. Also, from May to June, we cooperated with the famous Facebook blogger "Silicon Valley Aya" to collaborate on a series of live events to interview several alumni of TTA SV, accelerator partners, and the daily life of Silicon Valley Taiwanese young generation. Through Aya's witty and lively questions and answers, you can explore various exciting or moving stories in the startup ecosystem.

因應COVID-19疫情，報名期限延長

TTA SV赴美資助計畫，2020年將遴選28家科技新創團隊赴美發展，為了協助新創團隊能夠有效在美國挖掘商務機會，並且長時間沉浸在矽谷創業思維和文化中，計畫提供補助經費以及進入矽谷知名加速器學習機會。獲選的新創團隊最多能夠獲得90萬台幣的補助，而且今年開始，科技部特別與矽谷Plug and Play、Berkeley SkyDeck及Alchemist Accelerator三家頂尖加速器合作，讓台灣新創團隊能夠透過這三家加速器的輔導及人脈，更順利接軌國際市場。

TTA SV並在矽谷當地設立TTA SV計畫辦公室，在第一線提供赴美新創團隊在美國當地的支援。TTA SV辦公室深耕矽谷當地創投、天使投資人、科技社團、大學實驗室、企業、加速器、法規顧問等合作夥伴關係，例如被CB Insights評為全美第一的天使投資社群Life Science Angels以及矽谷區域運作最久的Band of Angels，都是TTA SV的合作夥伴。此外，配合TechCrunch等大型展會，TTA SV也會設立國家新創館，提升赴美團隊的國際能見度。

今年度徵案報名原定於3月31日截止，由於COVID-19疫情影響，全球新創發展不確定性增加，因此擴大徵案規模，延長徵案期限，讓錯過原第一梯報名期限的團隊也能有機會獲得資助機會。預計於5月31日截止報名申請，並將視情況得延長期限，至本計畫預定資助名額額滿為止。

TTA SV台灣團隊赴美發展，屢創佳績

2019年獲選進入Plug And Play新創加速器的優必闊Ubiik，專攻長距離、低功耗網路(LPWAN)通訊系統研發產品，進入矽谷加速器後鏈結Plug and Play世界500強的龐大企業會員資源，接觸超過50家國際廠商與創投，成功將產品打入美國市場。最後成功接獲美國硬碟大廠訂單。獲得國際的肯定與背書後，返台後更獲得台電4.6億標案，將為台灣26萬用戶安裝具新創高功率與節能技術的智慧電錶。

2019年獲選進入Alchemist新創加速器的啟兒寶PenguinSmart，開發針對特殊兒童的遠距復健支持平台。進入新創加速器後，不但獲得加速器直接投資，並在短時間內獲得國際投資人實際募資及市場拓展等機會。從一開始含蓄的學術型溝通，到最後以成熟完整的商業計畫，充滿自信的與國際企業談判。目前啟兒寶的服務合作已推廣至亞洲多地，同時在台灣與矽谷設有據點。

2019年獲選進入加州柏克萊大學SkyDeck Accelerator的NexRetail 深智科技，是用AI與IOT技術分析消費者行為的軟體開發公司。在獲選進入加速器後，直接鏈結世界頂尖研究資源，了解AI發展趨勢。同時在一個半月的密集課程中，與超過50位的SkyAdvisor互動，了解既有產品在各潛在市場的實際可能需求與瓶頸。赴美期間，在計畫協助下參加TechCrunch新創大展，獲得歐洲知名酒商下單。

台矽鏈結，疫情中仍然暢通無阻

COVID-19防疫期間，全球交通以及大型國際展會皆暫停，科技部TTA SV辦公室仍然致力於活絡台矽雙邊的交流互動，運用新媒體槓桿其矽谷在地人脈網絡來舉行各類主題Webinar，持續將矽谷專家觀點以及新創趨勢橋接至台灣，維持台矽雙邊的資訊通透。

在4月28日邀請August Capital的GP – David Hornik分享創投在疫情中的投資策略；5月26日則請到TED Talk演講者的訓練老師David Beckett分享如何在人際交流走向數位化的時代，仍然能夠給出吸睛的簡報。除此之外，在5月至6月，更與FB網紅「矽谷阿雅」合作一系列的直播活動，訪問TTA SV的畢業團隊、加速器合作夥伴，還有矽谷台灣青年的日常，透過阿雅機智活潑的問答，挖掘新創圈各種令人捧腹或是感動的故事。
